The atumpan is a peg drum of Ghana drum considered sacred by the Ashanti.

This percussion instrument is generally used in pairs, associating the sound of the drum known as female to the deeper sound of the male atumpan.

Beyond the accompaniment of dances, these African drums imitate the sound and rhythm of the African tonal languages and can be used to communicate over long distances.
