Bendré baradunun - Calabash drum of Burkina Faso

The bendré is a Burkinabe drum that is also found in Mali under the name bara dunun, and dumaa in northern Benin. Originally, it was a drum used for royal court rituals, during the enthronement of a traditional chief, funerals, ceremonies or to announce an important message. Today, it can be found in cabarets in the company of other instruments, in traditional or contemporary orchestras.
